6/14/2010 Over 200 juniors going into their senior year start the Summer Internship Program (SIP). The students are placed in IT companies, law firms, financial institutions, city departments, school district departments, engineering and construction firms, hotels and SF attractions and even in the Board of Supervisor and Assemblymember offices. As part of their summer internship students report to classrooms two days a week for their summer seminar portion of the internship where they receive school credit for reflecting with peers and building their professional skills. This year, SFUSD partnered with the Pearson Foundation to pilot a private social network site where students are provided prompts and asked to blog about their internship experiences. In addition there are several assignments integrated. The students blog are an exciting way to reach the students on their terms and to capture the authentic internship experience. The students are able to comment on their classmates blogs, the teachers are able to assess their experience and employer hosts are able to view and comment as well.
